This was my first taste of publishing. In eleventh grade, I wrote this poem and it was published in a book titled, Equinox. It was a book of poems written by middle and high school students in Jefferson County, Kentucky.
Leader of the Band
He runs out on the stage,
everyone checks regardless of age.
The women go wild, he can almost feel their hands,
because he’s the leader of the band.
He wears a white, skin-tight outfit,
and his songs a number one hit.
He shakes his long hair,
as his music fills the air,
because he’s the leader of the band.
Everyone moves to his beat,
he thinks he’ll die just from the heat.
And when it’s all over,
he knows he’d at the top,
because there’s just no way that it’s ever going to stop!
